The street tracks alongside the river and lagoon where we had glimpses of swans and other birdlife. There have been quite a few 4WD tracks off onto non-public camps and shacks along the river. This is clearly a popular location for boating, fishing, bird-watching and looking.

Flinders Island was named on eighth January 1799 by British navigator and explorer, Matthew Flinders. Tasman named it Van Demens Land to honour the East Indies Governor-General who had sent him to discover gold and silver. But it is thought the Furneaux group was uninhabited when first sighted by Captain Tobias Furneaux in 1773.
